Odissi in São Paulo - Lecture & Performance

On Saturday, 1 November 2025, São Paulo welcomed a rare opportunity to experience the beauty and depth of Classical Indian Odissi Dance with dancer and maestro Sam Goraya, visiting from Melbourne, Australia. At the invitation of Professor Sonia Galvão, whose work has built living bridges between Brazil and India for decades, Sam shared a lecture and demonstration of this millennial art form - an expression of devotion, precision, and grace.

On this occasion, Sam performed alongside Sonia Galvão, Erika Strauss, and Rita Andrade, offering the audience an intimate encounter with Odissi - a dance that is, at once, craft, meditation, and offering. Through delicacy and strength, stillness and refinement, the form revealed its quiet power.

The gathering took place in a space opened with generosity and joy - a meeting of tradition and presence, masters and apprentices, East and West. It was a celebration held between body and spirit, sound and silence - an invitation to step into the temple of sacred art.
