Behind the scene... Pashyati Dishi Dishi
This video gives a little glimpse of the effort that goes into performing a dance piece with live orchestra. It is a joint effort by the Guru, musicians and the dancer that come together to create synergy to evoke rasa through bhava. I am indebted to my Guru Bichitrananda Swain for helping me tirelessly to perform this very difficult abhinaya to the best of my ability.
Courtsey: Guru Bichitrananda Swain, Rudrakshya Foundation, Agani Mitra, Saumaya Ranjan Joshi, Rupak Kumar Parida and Bijay Kumar Barik.
Pashyati Dishi Dishi, the 12th Ashtapadi of Geet Govind written by the 12th century poet Jayadev. In this Ashtapadi Radha’s friend returns to Krishna to inform him about the ecstatic state of Radha. O’Krishna the saddened Radha in her loneliness is in the bower looks for you everywhere and imagines you in every object. O’Hari, Radha is looking all around for you. Radha imagines that you have embraced her and drinking nectar from her lips. Suddenly, she realises that it was an illusion. She is distressed to notice that you are enjoying the nectar like kisses with other Gopikas. She is very sad in her cottage; however, she is excited to meet you. She walks confusedly with faltering steps.
O’Krisha, Radha is eagerly waiting on her bed, alas, she waits all night but you don’t show up. The cool rays of moon burn her body like fire. Radha feels helpless and completely dejected. She has lost all her shyness and weeps for you.
